About Skills Development Scotland
Skills Development Scotland is a non-departmental public body which brought together the careers, skills, training and funding services of Careers Scotland, Scottish University for Industry and the skills functions of Scottish Enterprise and Highlands & Islands Enterprise.
When Skills Development Scotland was launched in April 2008, it marked the start of a step change in the delivery of careers, skills and training services in Scotland. In Skills Development Scotland they were tasked with catalysing real and positive change in Scotland’s skills performance by linking skills supply and demand more effectively and helping people and organisations learn, develop and utilise these skills to greater effect.
At SDS, it is their job to support you make decisions about learning and your career. Whether you are making choices at school, furthering your education, managing your career or facing employment challenges, they have the expertise to help you make well-informed decisions.

Evidence plays a vital role in supporting both policy-making and career management skills, which is why they are happy to share SDS knowledge and research with partners, government and other parties dedicated to advancing skills in Scotland. As well as delivering training, funding and advisory services to individuals, employers and learning providers, SDS provides access to the latest thinking and research on learning. This includes their own research but, as importantly, they also provide access to skills research provided by other bodies. This ensures that the widest range of knowledge and intelligence is made widely available.

SDS collaborates with other organisations working in the field to bring you access to further knowledge and different perspectives on skills and learning. They operate Research Online, which provides free access to almost 17,000 labour market intelligence reports and analyses, many focused specifically on Scotland.
