Being 'handy round the house' is worth bearing in mind when you apply for a job which calls for routine equipment maintenance – you may already have many of the necessary skills.


If you have performed any of the following activities, you will have acquired equipment maintenance skills:

  • Preventative maintenance

  • Having spare parts readily available

  • Finding the root cause of an equipment breakdown

  • Ascertaining the condition of a piece of equipment – does it need specialist attention?

  • The safety aspects of equipment – is it safe to use, does it need safety equipment to operate?
