Depends on site design, purpose etc.
But you could try BT Trade Space.
or there are a number of companies do very cheap annual hosting. Supergreen is cheap, effective and gives a bundle of free struff inclusing MySQL, Word Press etc. I've used these and no had a problem.

I can recommend iWeb for your mac, I used it for my site. It's perfect for basic sites.

Depending on what you want to do, you could use WordPress this is relatively simple to use. It is one of the most widely used tools. It is used on some very big web sites e.g. http://en.wordpress.com/notable-users/.
Wordpress is open source and comes with a lot of extras that can be plugged into preexisting free or paid for templates.
If your Internet provider provides cpanel or Fantastico facilities these will come with auto load scripts so you don't need to be technical to get up and going. For a few pounds you can buy professionally designed templates as a starting point.
Supergreen are O.K. I've used them, they ae now Just Host. But I have recently started moving my sites to UK based businesses.
Other products for the MAC are Rapid Weaver and Sandvox. my preference is Rapid Weaver. These can be used by the non technical user to create really good looking and functional sites.
I would advise not buying your domain name in a job lot from your hosting business, unless they have a separate domain registration service. It can make thing messy if you want to move host.
I would register you domain with a provider such as http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ (there are lots around) and point the address to you hosting company. It makes managing you domain name much easier.
Hope this helps.
BT Trade Space is a bit clunky. Free hosting for anything other tan blogs is limted. Its worth paying the £50 a year for a starter host pack. Some are even less.
