I recently read somewhere that there is a new 'alternative' to the CIC? Can anyone help?
Community Interest Company, Charity or new alternative

Hi Margo,
There are a number of options open to a 3rd sector business in terms of it legal and regulatory structure. Broadly they are Charity, for-profit business or social enterprise.
CIC (community interest companies) are a form of limited company created to allow business to trade and invest for social good. You mention Charities specifically - a charity may own or become a CIC and the implications, especially for tax and investment reasons need to be examined carefully. However, CIC's are not the only option and depending on your current structure or intended activites there are a few possibilities.
