I am plannign an online network but is this model outdated, and is a member site more profitable?

I am currently working on a business model for an online network targeting those working within the creative industry. What are your opinions on whether the idea has legs, considering how social networks have mushroomed. And do you feel a member site is more appropriate these days - or is this perhaps more suited to America where they flourish? Any thoughts welcome!

  1. It's all about niches Vanessa. The bigger the niche the less chance you have of getting anyone to see you! Both models work fine by the way. But the niche is what counts. If it is very small, it is easy to target using SEO, and therefore relatively easy to start your community.

So, start with 'Creative', then dig as deep as you can into that hugely broad niche until you find something that a) you are interested in b) others are interested in. Once you have it going, even with only a few members, you can then add other relative micro-niches to it and build up from there.

My specialist niche is building a bookkeeping business from home as can be seen on this website accountingforeveryone.com

    Good Luck.
