  1. Hi Glenn,

    Your priorities should be:

    1. Make sure your site is submitted to all the big search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) You appear to indexed by Google but not by the others

    2. Get as many back links to your site as you can. Currently you only have 4 that I can find (click here) and one of them is   this post! Post your business on online directories - I'd expect that there are plenty for driving schools. Make sure you are listed on the sites of the organisations you are accredited by. Post in relevant online forums using your web address surrounded by relevant keywords.

After this you need to get a bit more creative. I would imaging most of your students are in the right demographic to big social networking users. Why not create a Facebook group for your students and post your details on other relevant Facebook groups. Have you considered writing a blog? If you have the time this is a great way to get traffic to your site as search engines, especially google, love blogs.

So those are a few starters. Depending on how much time you have some Google searching on terms like SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing) will yield loads of sites with people discussing and offering advice on this sort of thing. The skies the limit!

  2. Glenn,

VentureNavigator's Blog (yes, DO subscribe to it!) has a recent post associated with your question Top 10 Free Online Marketing Tips for Startups: Item 6 is all about Search Engine Optimisation.

By the way, here's a definition of Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Marketing.

  3. One approach you can use, is to register your business on Google's Local Business Centre. You will need to set-up a google account.

The local business centre will help to get you onto the front page when people use google to search for driving schools. I have used this wilth a number of small businesses and it does work.

You could also set-up a page on BT trading spaces which will cost nothing.

I would suggest you get a google account if you have not already, and also set-up google analytics on your site. You may already have some basic web stats through your ISP. I have found Googles features very useful including the overlay feature which allows you to see the number of times people have clicked on specific links by page.

    Hope this helps.
