  1. Simple question...

    .... simple answer: no.

You can knock up a business plan on a side of paper. So long as you know What you are selling, Who will be on your team and How you will get the product to market, you don't need a detailed 100 page plan.

  2. Hi Lamin,

Several high street banks offer business plan software or templates. However, as Adam said, there is no need to write reams and reams, so long as your plan details who you are, what you're going to do, why you're going to do it, how you're going to do it and why it's going to be viable.

The Business Link website has a useful section on writing a business plan:

    http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/layer?r.l1=1073858805&topicId=1073869162&r.lc=en&r.l2=1073859137&r.s=tl

In addition, the likes of your local enterprise agency (or national equivalent) may provide business plan workshops and/or templates for people thinking of setting up their own venture.

    Good luck!

  4. Lamin,

There are several sources of business plan software and any of them can be useful if you're not confident about your ability to create your own plan. However, if you have even a modest ability to write clearly, creating your own plan is preferred. Aim for about 5 - 10 pages of text plus financial forecasts (cash flow and P&L) plus as many appendices as you wish, containing more detailed information. Once you have completed these items, write a summary of no more than two pages that covers ALL the major items in the plan.

Your local Business Link can probably help you with this so I recommend giving them a call.

  7. We use Business Plan Pro (www.paloalto.co.uk) our own best selling software. You can also look at Bplans.co.uk for free sample business plans and articles.
