Hi My idea is for a curry in a hurry. Is a drive thru for a curry a good idea? Thanks

I have a very simple idea for a drive thru curry restaurant, is there any point?

  1. Hi Janine,

The best thing to do is some market research, ie find out if there is a need for this kind of business. You can do this quite simply by devising a short questionnaire and gauging the opinions of people who live in the area in which you would like to site the business.

Also, you'd want to think about how this kind of business would function. For example, how would it be quicker than a traditional takeaway shop?

  2. I have a catering company, and have investigated all sorts of ideas. I can't see how it could be done, for example, the curries are cooked to order in takeaway shops, in a drive-thru I can see a very long line of cars waiting for their meals! In my opinion, drive thrus only work for fast food (e.g.McD) and I wouldn't class curry as a fast food. There would also be a lot of waste, I would think, and I don't think you would make much profit. I have toyed with the idea of a drive thru cob/sandwich idea, but, again, there are no real benefits over having a traditional shop. I think there are problems with traffic regs, too, I seem to remember reading somewhere that McD's pay thousands for this, depending on location.
